The ASCILITE 2017 Organising Committee is calling for applications from current students enrolled in tertiary education who are interested in participating as a student volunteer for the conference.

Why Volunteer?

There are many different benefits in being a student volunteer at ASCILITE 2017. You will:

  • have the opportunity to become involved in the conference operations and gain insights and experience in running a large event
  • contribute to the positive conference experience and generate a encouraging energy
  • have the opportunity to meet key thinkers and scholars in the field of higher education and to build your professional network
  • receive a complimentary three day registration to ASCILITE 2017 ($575 total value)
  • gain professional recognition including a certificate of participation
  • receive a conference T-shirt (to be worn at the conference).

What Does Volunteering Involve?

As a student volunteer, you support the organising committee with the running of the conference. This may include working on the registration desk, aiding speakers and session chairs, directing and helping delegates, documenting the event using multimedia, recording short interviews, liaising with venue staff, and other activities as required.  You will also be provided with the opportunity to attend some conference sessions.

We are looking for volunteers who

  • are outgoing and willing to learn
  • have excellent communication and organisation skills
  • are willing to meet new people and work collaboratively with the conference organising committee
  • are interested in having fun! 

Selection Criteria

The successful applicants will be chosen based on how well their personal statement addresses the following selection criteria:

  • Describe how your participation at the ASCILITE 2017 conference will contribute to your current employment and/or future career, and to your personal and professional development.
  • Describe your experience in event management (for example, have you organised or helped organised a wedding, school fete, scout camp, etc.?)
  • Tell us why YOU in particular should be chosen as a volunteer? What unique contributions and capacity will you bring?

Applicants should also illustrate high quality professional presentation (i.e. correct spelling and grammar).

How to Apply

Applicants for Student Volunteer positions at the ASCILITE 2017 conference must be current students enrolled in tertiary education. Applicants need to submit three documents:

  • Nomination form [Word]
  • One page resume (A4)
  • A personal statement addressing the selection criteria listed above. Your personal statement can take any form you wish. For example, a 2 page written statement, a 2 minute video. The choice is yours!

Completed submissions must be received by Monday 18 September 2017. Late entries will not be accepted.
